Device Documentation

Throughout my time at Iota Motion I, along with another intern, were tasked with refiling all of the companies devices shipping, receiving, manufacturing and inspection files. When the company moved locations their paper files were scanned in digitally but due to the rushed nature they were not done in an organized manner. My job was to to go through these paper binders and compare them to hundreds of scanned files and rename and regroup them. The reasons for this was because the biomedical industry is a regulated medical industry where if a part fails they will need to make sure they can see where they got it to track down the issue. This played a crucial role in getting the company ready for audits, which they had while we were there, and making sure all of the information was properly documented and accessible.
Another part of this process was learning what these files meant. One way we did this was learning how to do a device inspection. I got to see how they test to see if the devices are working correctly by setting up a camera that videotapes the device inserting three types of electrodes next to a ruler. They then watch back the recording and make a line at zero seconds and then again at 5 seconds. They use these measurements to make sure the device is moving at the correct amount of mm/sec within the error percentage. They do this test at multiple speeds and they and with multiple electrodes to ensure it is functioning at full capacity. They also have another software that does this automatically in addition to the more manual test.
